General Communication

A school can be successful only with cooperation and communication between home and school. Each teacher will provide information to the parents on a regular basis using messages via Fast Direct, the school’s online communication tool, telephone, in person or by email. The parents are expected to familiarize themselves with each teacher’s form of communication. Parents should feel free to call the school when they have a concern.

Teachers are rarely able to accept a call during school hours, but the office will be happy to transfer you to a particular teacher’s voice mail and the teacher will return your call at the first opportunity. If you have something to discuss with the Principal or a teacher, please feel free to schedule an appointment.

The school provides two forms of written communication to the parents: the weekly “Heart Beat” and a monthly newsletter. It is of paramount importance that parents read both and make note of important information contained within its pages. They are both important means of communication. To disregard either may cause you or your child/children to miss important events or announcements. Please read each newsletter carefully.

The Heart Beat

The Heart Beat is a weekly snapshot of critical information. It is one page, double-sided and given to every student in the school at the end of each week. It is the first and best place for most current news and happenings. Please look for it in your student’s backpack or Friday folder.

Monthly Online Newsletter

Newsletters are a more thorough publication generated the last Friday of the month and posted online in two places: Fast Directs’ Links section and the website.  All submissions for the newsletter are due to the school office the Monday prior to posting on Friday and must be approved by the administration. Internet Access & Use

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School enjoys a sophisticated computer system that is available for teacher supervised student use. However, with that privilege comes the responsibility of proper use. Consequently, each school year, every SHJ student (K-8) must have a parent signed Internet Access and Use Permission Slip before he/she will be allowed to participate in any computer technology course or use classroom computers.
