Our Physical Education Teacher
Nicholas F. Banks - Physical Education - Kindergarten - 8th Grade
Mr. Nicholas Banks formerly “Mr. Nick”, started with us back in April 2005 working in “The Early Learning Center,” as an after-school and full-time teacher. Mr. Banks looks forward to entering his 5 th year at SHJ and promises another year full of new and exciting things and most important a FUN-filled year, really focusing on the importance of Physical Education and Health! Mr. Banks was born and raised on the east coast and spent his formative years in NYC. Mr. Banks attended public schools in Manhattan where he performed with the Metropolitan Opera and won numerous gospel competitions both in the U.S. and in Canada for singing and acting. Mr. Banks attended both Fordham Prep and Loyola for his high school years. Both of these Jesuit institutions gave him a very special education with small classes and a focus on service. Mr. Banks played basketball and ran track at Loyola, practicing his running in Central Park and on the streets of the upper west side of Manhattan. In his spare time, Mr. Banks enjoys volunteering with older senior citizens, cooking, camping and most especially bowling. Mr. Banks graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BA in English in May of 2001 and is currently working on a 2nd degree in Integrative Physiology. Ever since he attended his mother’s classes in NJ, Pennsylvania, New York, and Colorado, Mr. Banks has wanted a class of his own.
Mr. Banks is already planning a host of new activities and will actually be handing off his “Field Day” responsibilities to focus on Boulder Bolder Training and teaching the importance of Physical Education as well as Health this year. He will be attending Pingree Park and all of the Middle School Retreats. He will continue to deliver his brand of teaching during the day and coaching after-school in both basketball and volleyball at SHJ, and this year plans to finish the Boulder Bolder in less than 50 minutes.
Mr. Banks is thrilled to be back for another year at Sacred Heart of Jesus teaching Physical Education, helping to point his students in the right direction and building on a lifelong love of sports. If this is not enough, Mr. Banks is working on a second certification in elementary education and planning to hone his kick ball skills for his recreational kickball team. Look for Mr. Banks in his new office--very professional look and feel at SHJ!!
