Bonnie Martin - 7th Grade Language Arts, 7th & 8th Grade Literature
Ms. Martin was born in Syracuse, N.Y., educated at Jesuit schools – both undergraduate and graduate – and began her teaching career in the beautiful villages of Fayetteville and Manlius, N.Y. Having never lived in the West, but only in the East, she decided to come out to Colorado.
Although she was teaching in Boulder at that time, she was also volunteering evenings and weekends at Fitzsimons Army Hospital. Fitzsimons was an orthopedic hospital then, and the walls were bulging with Vietnam returnees. There was much work to be done there and she wanted to do it all. So she returned to Denver the second year both to teach and to continue working at Fitzsimons.
After eighteen years of teaching, Ms. Martin became a lobbyist representing poor and vulnerable people; first for the Archdiocese of Denver, then for the Office of Aging Advocacy (of the Colorado Catholic Conference), and ultimately for Legal Aid in Colorado. She then took a position with the Archdiocese once again as social ministry coordinator. Her charge was the Archdiocesan Legislative Network, a large group of volunteers from parishes throughout the entire Archdiocese. The network was the contact arm of the Colorado Catholic Conference to state legislators and Congresspeople. She also worked with social concerns committees and spoke to groups of parishioners explaining how the position the Bishops had taken on any given piece of legislation was predicated upon our Faith’s social teaching.
She is, once again, very happy to be back teaching, and she feels privileged and delighted to be a part of Sacred Heart of Jesus for the fifth year. (And so is Mick, her fabulous German Shepherd!)

Mrs.Weinzapfel began teaching as a volunteer catechist in parish religious education programs. She taught all grades over twelve years, however 5th, 6th, and 7th grades were her favorite.

Seven years later she graduated Magna cum Laude with a BA in Religious Studies and a minor in Religious Education. She was also awarded the John Henry Newman award for excellence in religious studies. While working as a DRE, she taught adult education religious education, RCIA and middle school confirmation.
In 1995, Mrs. Weinzapfel left parish work to enter into teaching full time. She started at Sacred Heart of Jesus in September of 1995 as a part-time junior high religion teacher. In September of 1998 she was offered a full-time teaching position teaching 7 th grade social studies and 7 th and 8 th grade religion.
