| 6th Grade Social Studies: |
TEXT: The World, Scott Foreman
This program enriches the content of Social Studies by drawing on knowledge from ancient history, geography and economics, as well as from the expressive arts and the humanities. Students continue their development of critical thinking, reading maps, diagrams, and graphs. In 6th grade social studies we study geography and medieval civilizations. Geography includes the study of the four continents of Africa, Asia, South America, and Europe. Geography also includes working on maps and geographical terms and places. We also study medieval civilizations from these continents including the beginning of Islam, the Incas, and the early civilizations from Africa, China, Cambodia, India, and Japan.
In 6th grade social studies we also learn how to write and keep clear and effective notes. |
7th Grade
US History to 1877: |

In 7th grade social studies we continue from 6th grade with the studies of ancient civilizations. We study various civilizations that existed from 0 A.D. to the Renaissance. 7th grade social studies includes learning how to answer and write essay questions, research papers and how to write clear and effective notes. The 7th grade Social Studies class starts with the Native Americans and continues with European Exploration, Settlement of the Colonies, Revolutionary War, and the examination of the Constitution, Westward Expansion, and the Civil War. A variety of methods of teaching are used to enhance the study and the course follows the developed Archdioceses of Denver curriculum.
Geography is part of social studies and students complete various kinds of maps and geography worksheets.

8th Grade
American History - Reconstruction to the Present: |
TEXT: The American Journey , 2005
This class starts with the Civil War and Reconstruction and brings the course of study to present day history. A variety of methods of teaching are incorporated and using interactive computer programs are used when applicable. The course follows the developed Archdioceses of Denver curriculum. |
