| 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades: |
This is a quarter class meeting four days per week in the computer lab where the students will be exposed to a variety of computer experiences. They will improve their keyboarding skills by working on a keyboarding program called “Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing”. Correct finger position and accuracy of above 90% is required. Our goal at the end of 8th grade is 35 words per minute. Students will also be doing multimedia presentations using Power Point and HyperStudio. Use of Microsoft Office, including Word exercises and Excel spreadsheets will be covered. 6th graders do a HyperStudio tutorial on “ France ” and then create an autobiography using HyperStudio. 8th graders do a WebQuest on Plagiarism that they present to the 5th and 6th grades. Parents and students must sign an Internet permission form and Plagiarism pledge for the school. The Internet will be used for research, as well as Wordbook Online. Life skills in technology, which can be applied to other classes and subjects, will be taught in middle school computer class.
