Preparation for Receiving the Sacraments

Baptism
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
Matt 28:19

Baptisms are celebrated each Sunday following the 9:30 am Mass. Preparation for Baptism of an infant requires the parents to attend a Baptism class. These classes are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the Parish Center. Attendance is required for parents and godparents who wish to baptize their child at Sacred Heart of Jesus. Registration for the class is necessary. Please call the office of Religious Education at 303-442-6158, ext 112 to sign up. Godparents must be baptized, confirmed, practicing Catholics and are encouraged to attend the class.

Spanish pre-Baptism classes are offered the last Sunday of each month following the Spanish Mass. Spanish Baptisms are held the first Sunday of the month at 2:30 pm, and the third Saturday of the month at 11 am.

Click here for information on the Rights and Obligations of the Baptized according to Canon Law.

Holy Communion/Eucharist
“Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me."
Luke 22:19

Our parish children are prepared for reception of First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation in their second grade classes in the Parish School of Religion. In accordance with the Church’s belief that parents are the primary catechists of their children, six one-hour classes for parents are held during the year. These classes assist the parents in preparing their children for the sacraments. Reconciliation precedes First Holy Communion. The Archdiocese of Denver recommends that children receive at least one year of religious education prior to the year of preparation for these two sacraments.

Students attending Sacred Heart of Jesus School are prepared for reception of First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation in their second grade classes. In accordance with the Church’s belief that parents are the primary catechists of their children, six one-hour classes for parents are held during the year. These classes assist the parents in preparing their children for the sacraments.

The celebration of First Reconciliation will be Friday, November 19, at 6:30pm. The celebration of the Mass for First Holy Communion will be Sunday, April 24, at 3:30pm.

Adults desiring Holy Communion/Eucharist please refer to the R.C.I.A.
