At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
Matt 18:1-4

R.C.I.C.: Rite of Christian Initiation of Children:
“You are the light of the world.”

Matthew 5:14

Children over the age of seven who are not baptized or baptized with no religious formation study about our faith over the course of the school year and are received into the Church at the Easter Vigil Mass. Children receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion. This gentle and joyful time of learning about God’s great love for us as expressed in his Church is led by Reta Lorenz. Please contact the parish center or Reta at retalorenz@gmail.com for more information.

Sacramental Preparation
“Sacraments are “powers that come forth” from the Body of Christ, which is ever-living and life-giving. They are actions of the Holy Spirit at work in His Body, the Church.”
CCC

First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation

Children in second grade and older prepare for reception of these sacraments through Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. This Montessori-style method is based on the foundation of the great love of Jesus offered to his “sheep” in the Parable of the Good Shepherd and the Gospel’s revelation of God’s will for us to be made holy and to be made ready to live in communion with Him.

A special atrium for sacramental preparation is offered on Thursday afternoons from 4pm-6pm beginning September 23 rd. First Holy Communion will be received on Saturday, May 14, 2010. The date for First Reconciliation is Friday, January 21, 2010. An informational meeting about Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and sacramental preparation will follow the 10am Mass on September 19 th in the Scout Room off of Jubilee Hall.

Space is limited, please register early! See registration form for details.

Children attending Sacred Heart of Jesus School are prepared in their classes as part of their second grade curriculum.

Confirmation Preparation

Teens are eligible to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation beginning in ninth grade. This is a change for our parish, therefore this year, 2010-11; we will not have a preparation class as most of our eighth graders were Confirmed in the Spring of 2010.

Liturgy of the Word for Children

Each Sunday throughout the year, children from preschool through seventh grade are dismissed from the 10:00am Mass to read, study and discuss God’s Holy Word in age-appropriate groups. All children at Mass are invited to participate. They return to the Mass and rejoin their families at the beginning of the Eucharistic prayer. Pam Jackimiec is the coordinator for LOW for Children. For more information please contact the parish center or Pam: pamjackimiec@q.com

Miracles, Mysteries &, Marvels

Master of nature, Healer of the Sick, Conqueror of demons and death: Jesus spent a large proportion of his time not only as a teacher but also as a miracle worker. This year’s special Sunday children’s catechism class will introduce students to Jesus ’ miraculous deeds and explain them so they connect with the hearts and minds of today’s “21st century” children”. Interactive lessons using art, games, skits, and music will help students understand both the
Gospel miracles and miracles in modern day life. Class will meet at 9 AM in the Parish Center starting, September 26. Class size is limited so please enroll early. Open to grades 2-7.

Teens Talk
“…Like olive plants your children around your table.”
Psalms 128:3

High School teens gather after the 6pm Sunday Mass to share a meal, share their faith, discuss relevant topics in a teen’s life, do service projects and have fun! Walk over to the Parish Center after Mass to meet others who wrestle with the meaning and challenge of being a Catholic Christian in the world today. Open to all high school age teens.

Totus Tuus
“Lord, I will be totally yours!”

TOTUS TUUS is an Archdiocesan program that gathers college students and seminarians into teams of four each and sends them out to parishes to spread the GOOD NEWS of our LORD among children and youth. For grade school children the program consists of catechetical instruction, songs, games, daily Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, lunch, recess and more. The middle and high school programs have catechetical instruction, a night of Adoration and Reconciliation, and a night of fellowship with the team. The goal of both programs is to help them know the LORD and love Him more deeply. Because of the youthfulness and energy of the teachers, the children and youth have FUN as well! For grades 1-12; dates for summer 2011 to be announced.

Please contact Michelle Anderson at 303-442-6158, ext 112 for more information on any of these programs.
