News Release 1/20/2012
In August 2011, the Department of Health and Human Services issued an interim final rule that will require most health insurance plans to cover preventive services for women including recommended contraceptive services without charging a co-pay, co-insurance or a deductible. The rule allows certain non-profit religious employers that offer insurance to their employees the choice of whether or not to cover contraceptive services. Today the department [HHS] is announcing that the final rule on preventive health services will ensure that women with health insurance coverage will have access to the full range of the Institute of Medicine’s recommended preventive services, including all FDA -approved forms of contraception [including abortifacients]. Women will not have to forego these services because of expensive co-pays or deductibles, or because an insurance plan doesn’t include contraceptive services. This rule is consistent with the laws in a majority of states which already require contraception coverage in health plans, and includes the exemption in the interim final rule allowing certain religious organizations not to provide contraception coverage. Beginning August 1, 2012, most new and renewed health plans will be required to cover these services without cost sharing for women across the country.
After evaluating comments, we have decided to add an additional element to the final rule. Nonprofit employers who, based on religious beliefs, do not currently provide contraceptive coverage in their insurance plan, will be provided an additional year, until August 1, 2013, to comply with the new law.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Food Pantry
The new format at the Food Pantry is a hit with both patrons and volunteers. Many more folks are able to utilize the service and more food is being distributed than in the past. So there’s a need for more food and for more volunteers.
Please bring contributions of non-perishables to the Parish Center: canned beef stew, beets, carrots, meats, Mandarin oranges, mixed vegetables, pineapple, pork & beans, refried beans and tomatoes. Packaged cake mixes, cereals, muffin mixes and pasta side dishes.
Right now we cannot use Chef Boyardee, corn, green beans, mac & cheese, peaches or tuna.
Phone the Parish Center if you can give 3 hours of your time on alternate Tuesdays, 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. It’s a wonderful volunteer opportunity.

Sandwiches for the Carriage House
Plastic baggies are in abundance but the cupboard’s bare when it comes to sliced lunchmeats and cheeses. Volunteers make 30 to 50 sandwiches each weekday, so weekly donations of ingredients are needed. Please bring them to the Parish Center, 8 am to 4 pm. The Carriage House can also use your donations of coffee — ground, instant, whole bean, any kind. Your contributions are genuinely appreciated.

You can use scrip with coupons, your King Soopers or Safeway card, and with all other shopping benefits.
