| Get Your Grocery Scrip after Mass! |
Thanks to the enthusiasm of the new Parish Councils and the can-do energy of Stan Peterson and the Ushers, you can now purchase SHJ grocery scrip after most weekend Masses.
After the 5pm Saturday Mass, look for the scrip table at the back of the church. And stop by the scrip table in Jubilee Hall after the 8 and 10 am Sunday Masses.
Remember: Your scrip purchase costs the same as you’d pay at the check-out register for groceries, BUT Sacred Heart of Jesus School gets 5% of what you buy in grocery scrip (10% from Liquor Mart scrip).
You can use scrip with coupons, your King Soopers or Safeway card, and with all other shopping benefits.
King Soopers scrip in $25 and $100 cards
Safeway scrip in $25 and $100 cards
Liquor Mart scrip in $25 certificates
Just bring your checkbook when you come to church! Cash and checks only, no credit cards.
Use this no-cost way to support our parish school!

| Annual Underwear Collection |
The Office of Hispanic Ministry of the Archdiocese of Denver is organizing its Annual Underwear Collection for the seasonal migrant workers who harvest the fields of Northern Colorado.
Last spring Sacred Heart of Jesus donated 41 pairs of underwear and 66 pairs of socks, which were gratefully received and graciously acknowledged. Let’s try to collect more this season to support a community that does not have the everyday means to purchase these items.
Please bring to the Parish Center newly-purchased socks and underwear in the original packaging . All sizes are needed for men and women.
Call the Parish Center for more information. |
| Interested in being an Altar Server? |
Those in 4th grade or older who have had the First Sacraments are invited to become vital participants in the liturgy of the Mass. New Altar Servers will be training alongside experienced servers later in February.
If you’d like to know more about being an Altar Server, please email Anne Knutson, ajanicki@aol.com. |
| Seeds of Hope |
|
Seeds of Hope is recruiting volunteers to help mentor/tutor in our inner-city Catholic Schools as well as volunteers to help with special events and clerical work at Seeds of Hope at the JPII Center, 1300 S Steele St, Denver. We offer volunteer orientations from 10 am to 11am the last Friday of each month. Please contact Betsy Boudreau at 303.715.3112 or by email at betsyb@seedsofhopetrust.org. |
| Join the 31 Club |
Serra International invites you to become a member of the 31 Club. It’s a unique organization: Each member chooses one date in the month and offers Mass on that day for Church vocations. 31 Club members pray for past, present and future priests, religious sisters, brothers and deacons who serve the parish.
Anyone can join! Just pick a date. Then, each month for the next year, offer your Mass on that day. NO STIPEND, NO FEE
Sign up on the calendar in the Parish Center and contact Joe Hibl, 303.443.0698, for information. |
| Summer Opportunity for Youth |
|
¡Cultiva! is a youth-operated organic garden operated by Growing Gardens, a local non-profit organization. Participants (ages 11-19) plant a 2-acre garden, harvest the produce to sell at the Saturday Boulder County Farmers' Market, and donate a portion of what is harvested to those in need in the local community. For more information, please visit our website: growinggardens.org/english/programs/youth/cultiva/index.html |
| Operation Rice Bowl |
Operation Rice Bowl is a program of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) offering US Catholics the opportunity to follow the call to sacrifice by learning about their brothers and sisters living in poverty and by making sacrificial contributions that will improve their lives.
Students of SHJ School and families throughout the Parish are invited to join in Operation Rice Bowl this Lent and to share their experiences of the program. Email your thoughts to harrisonk@shjboulder.org.
Last year Catholics raised more than $7 million through Operation Rice Bowl, 75 percent of which is used to address hunger in 40 countries. The remaining 25 percent stays in U.S. dioceses to support programs that help those affected by rising food prices in our communities.
In the Philippines, Operation Rice Bowl funds programs that help farmers increase their crop yields and ensure food security in their communities. In Egypt, ORB-funded microfinance programs encourage small businesses so people can earn a living and put food on the table. Operation Rice Bowl also supports water projects around the world, bringing clean water to entire villages.
Operation Rice Bowl Prayer
God of all people, Hear us as we join in prayer with our brothers and sisters in need. Bless our Lenten fasting, learning, and giving. May your generous love for your people be our guide as we reach out to all who live with hunger and poverty. Amen. |

| The Sacred Heart of Jesus Food Box Program |
| For now we have all the plastic shopping bags we can use, but we still need more sturdy boxes, particularly wine and beer boxes, the perfect size for packing staples. And, of course, your food donations are always welcome. Thanks for your support. |
| The Sacred Heart School Foundation |
| The Sacred Heart School Foundation
would like to thank everyone who has helped make our support of the school possible. The Foundation was pleased to donate $3,500 to help in the purchase of the smartboards and computers which will help keep SHJ at the leading edge in teaching. Our goal is to keep our school viable today and into the future. You can send donations to Sacred Heart School Foundation, 2312 14th Street, Boulder, CO 80304. Thank you. |
| Boulder County Cares |
Boulder County Cares (BCC) is the street outreach program of the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless. This program utilizes trained volunteers who canvass the community every winter evening, distributing blankets and warm clothing, and providing food to unsheltered people on the streets.
Boulder County Cares operates from October 1 through April 30, 6 pm to 10 pm.
If you see a homeless person in need during these hours, please call the BCC cell phone at 303.358.7036 to request assistance.
For more information and to learn how you can help, call the Boulder County Cares office phone, 303.468.4328. |
| Donate to the SHJ Poor Box |
Donations to the Poor Box fund the church’s Charity Account, which helps families in need. Deacon-in-training Chris Byrne meets with those who need assistance and — as funds are available — helps families avoid eviction or keep utilities from being turned off or purchase prescription medications.
You may leave a check or cash in the Poor Box slot in the west side confessional door or send your donation to the Parish Business Office with designation for the Charity Account. Thank you. |
| Parking Lot Advisory |
You may have noticed how full the parking lot is most days and how many of the cars are parked there all day long. It’s likely that folks other than SHJ parishioners, parents, and staff are using our parking lot, which is reserved for SHJ use only. We’ve put notices on cars and advised parishioners to put SHJ parking stickers on their windshields. Now we’re going to have unauthorized vehicles towed.
Cars not displaying the official SHJ parking sticker will be towed at the owners’ expense: $140 (cash only, exact change), plus $20 per day beyond the first day.
Get your parking sticker(s) today from the ushers at all weekend Masses or during the week from the Parish Center or the school office.
Affix the sticker to the passenger side of the front windshield in the upper right-hand corner.
Thank you for your cooperation! |
